Deschutes Float Trip – Warm Springs to Trout Creek

I floated an overnight trip with a friend from Warm Springs to Trout Creek and the salmon fly hatch was hitting pretty hard! We caught a lot of great looking fish and enjoyed being away from it all for a couple days. Here’s a brief photo recap of the trip.

These bugs were everywhere! We found golden stones and salmonflies mating and lining the grassy banks. There weren’t many hitting the water though so the trout were not as keyed into the big bugs as they can be sometimes.

Float camping with the Eureka Tetragon 5 Tent made things a breeze. A very stable tent that gets decently compact for storing in the boat. It’s a perfect size for two of us with gear, you could accomodate another adult if you wanted to pretty easy.

And, this is a great float for starting out on the Lower Deschutes. Nothing more difficult than a small class II rapid. Very easy to pick lines and row a drift boat through. Make sure you get a boater’s pass and know the regulations before you head that way though!

I know everyone has different gear preferences but here is my main setup for fishing the Lower Deschutes:
Echo Carbon Fly Rod 9′ 5-Weight
Lamson Konic Fly Reel
Rio Gold Fly Line
